This books is a down-to-earth explanation of how to live when you make a decision to follow Christ. No heavy theology, but a practical, light approach with plenty of humour. Ten chapters cover the steps to salvation, what Church is all about, pressures Christians face, the Bible, prayer, sharing the good news, lifestyle, guidance, mission, and keeping going. Warm, positive and relevant to today's world, this is an ideal book for new believers, post-Alpha and enquirers groups.
Stephen Gaukroger is an internationally known and respected preacher and teacher. He is currently senior pastor at Gold Hill, one of the largest mainstream churches in the UK

Just over a month ago, I made a decision to follow Christ. Among the books I was given one stood out as a relaxed and modern counsel on Christian life ... a practical guide to everyday life as a newly converted Christian ...
I found First Steps to be both motivating and challenging, but the chapters move quickly and some topics would benefit from being covered in more depth. Despite this, it has answered many of my first questions and is helping me lay the foundations for a strong Christian life. John White describes the framework of the disciple's life: prayer, Bible study, witness, power over sin and dependence on God.
‘(John White) is another gifted communicator who uses all his abilities in this stimulating look at life as a fight. There are many books on the Christian life for young or growing Christians, but this is undoubtedly one of the best.’ (Floodtide )
