Wild at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man's Soul
John Eldredge
Helping men rediscover their masculine heart, this guide to understanding Christian manhood and Christian men offers a refreshing break from the chorus of voices urging men to be more responsible, reliable, dutiful… and dead.

God designed men to be dangerous, says John Eldredge. Simply look at the dreams and desires written in the heart of every boy: To be a hero, to be a warrior, to live a life of adventure and risk.

Sadly, most men abandon those dreams and desires-aided by a Christianity that feels like nothing more than pressure to be a "nice guy." It is no wonder that many men avoid church, and those who go are often passive and bored to death.

In this provocative book, now available in trade paper, Eldredge gives women a look inside the true heart of a man and gives men permission to be what God designed them to be-dangerous, passionate, alive, and free.

God led to me to pick up this book after prayer at the end of a visit to a service meeting at Holy Trinity Brompton in London. As I read it I was amazed and kept telling my wife this is telling the story of my life! I've only been a Christian for about three years. I have been trying to hold God to account asking him the same questions about my work over the last couple of years. How could he be letting me wander from job to job, role to role, place to place of work? I trusted that he wants me learn and he will bring good out of it, but what?
Wild at Heart talks about the struggle to be a man and know God as our father. We end up looking for reassurance in the wrong places - typically our work and our relationships with our wives. It suggests God will thwart our plans to get control of what we have held on to
before for our identity as a 'real man'. It has brought clarity and humbleness in my relationship with God - to be more willing to submit and trust him as my father. Which can't be a bad thing. I still have plenty of way to go. I would recommend the book to men of any age, and also women who want to understand our struggles in this world.
